Move abroad prepared and safe
General guidance for study, work and relocation travel. This is information, not immigration advice — official requirements always come from government sources.
General information vs official requirements. PFD explains common steps so you can prepare. Visa types, fees, documents and eligibility are set by each country's government and change often — always confirm on the official immigration website for your destination, and only pay fees through official channels.
Student travel
- Confirm your admission letter and any enrolment confirmation
- Check the official student visa page for your destination
- Show proof of funds exactly as the official guidance asks
- Arrange accommodation through your university where possible
Work travel
- Make sure the job offer is genuine — verify the employer independently
- Never pay an employer or agent for a job offer
- Check the official work-visa route and who must sponsor it
- Keep copies of your contract and qualifications
Relocation
- Budget for the first three months: rent deposit, transport, essentials
- Learn how healthcare and registration work at your destination
- Plan how you will access money on arrival
- Join official community or embassy channels
Travel preparation checklist
Before you fly
- Passport valid for the length required by your destination
- Visa or entry permission confirmed through the official source
- Travel and health insurance that covers your stay
- Printed and digital copies of key documents, stored separately
- Accommodation for at least your first nights confirmed
- Emergency contacts, including your embassy at the destination
- Money plan: card that works abroad plus some local currency
Scam prevention
- "Guaranteed visa" or "100% approval" promises
- Requests to pay into personal bank accounts
- Pressure to pay quickly or keep things secret
- Job offers that arrive without any interview
- Agents who won't show licences or official receipts
